U11s York 1-1 Leeds A

York Schoolboy under 11 footballers entertained the previously undefeated Leeds A team in the Yorkshire League. This game was always going to be York’s toughest test of the season as Leeds A are title favourites.

The game started at a frenetic pace with Leeds commanding much of the ball but York showed an early determination and work ethic off the ball to thwart successive Leeds attacks. York’s defence of George Turbine, Isaac Meehan and Dan Tingle were frustrating the opposition with some great individual defending to keep the score at 0-0, this determination seemed to infect the rest of the York team who now were starting to create half chances themselves with striker Joe Stamp going close after 18 minutes.

Just before half-time came the moment York were waiting for, a corner from York which Leeds failed to clear properly and Isaac Meehan strikes from distance with enough power to cause the keeper to parry forward into the path of Elliot Heath who with typical striker instinct poked into the Leeds net to put York 1-0 in front.

All the York players were giving all they had to try and keep their slender lead Will Hollings, Dan Myers, Taylor Bell and Jack Hughes chased every ball for the cause but just when it seemed York would gain a shock result a free kick was awarded to Leeds who floated the ball into the York penalty area where the left winger from Leeds volleyed in from distance with virtually the last kick off the game to level at 1-1.

A very entertaining game was enjoyed by all watching spectators and York took great comfort from stalling their West Yorkshire rivals title charge.
