U13s York 1-0 East Riding

U13s V East Riding Nov 15York U13s Schoolboys hosted a tough East Riding side in their 3rd league fixture of the season.  The game started at electric pace with the York midfield dominating the early preceding’s with Leo Potts, Elliot Oliver, Luke Jones and Alex Kemp combining well in midfield with some great one and two touch passing football and while the East Riding midfield pressed York were comfortable on the ball.  In the 2nd minute an Elliot Oliver delivered free kick which drifted harmlessly wide.  York’s first shot to test the East Riding keeper came in the 8th minute when Liam White, Sid McCoy, Ben Calam and Alfie broke up an early East riding attack and York playing the ball through the midfield found Conor Teale in attack, who after weaving round a couple of the East Riding defenders found the target with his shot which the East Riding keeper saved comfortably.

This fired York up more and more shots followed from Harvey Stephenson and Luke Jones but they couldn’t find a way through the big East Riding shot stopper.   East Riding used the pace of their front two on the counter to try and open York up at the back but the lads held firm.  There was an early scare midway through the half with the scores locked at 0-0 a break by the Riding centre forward down the left to the bye-line cutting back a cute precision pass which the onrushing East Riding forward mistimed and the ball was mopped up by Liam White at the back.

York were still edging possession, playing fast flowing football but couldn’t make an impact on the East Riding back line creating more shooting opportunities with on target shots from Liam White and Alex Kemp; but they too found the East Riding keeper up to the task with the score line 0-0 going into the break.

The second half started with York still looking for the opener with both teams battling hard in midfield.  A ball played from the back from Leo Jones through Luke Jones and Olly Hanley found Connor Teale darting down the left wing who drove in a low diagonal ball that Harvey Stephenson couldn’t get on the end off but which found Alex Kemp charging in from the right wing to hit a looping shot that the East Riding keeper managed to get his hands to; but spilled the ball behind him into the back of the net to give York a hard fought lead 10 minutes into the second half.

East Riding weren’t finished and it took a last ditch tackle by Leo Jones and another minutes later by Ben Calam to keep the East Riding attackers out.  The visitors were looking for the equaliser as the forced Joseph Hodge into this first save of the game on 58 minutes, which he took well.  The last ten minutes York defended stubbornly as East Riding pressed for the equaliser but with the midfield helping the defence out there was no way through as York had no intention of throwing away a hard fought lead making the final score 1-0.
