York & District Schoolboys Football

U11s Pre Season matches

York & District U11’s Schoolboys began their pre-season with an evening game against Hull City.

York are still in the process of finalising their squad for the upcoming season, this game provided the perfect opportunity for the players to showcase their talent against a very strong opponent.

It was a fiercely competitive match which resulted in a 4-4 draw. York’s coaches were delighted with the effort and desire shown by every individual within the team. They stated that the players had set a high benchmark with this performance and hopefully they can continue to move forward from here.

James Rennocks had a particularly memorable start to his York & District Schoolboy career scoring a hat-trick and Leo Berriman scored the remaining goal straight from a corner.

There was some notable individual performances, but the most pleasing aspect for York was how well they performed as a team in their first game together.

York’s next fixture was on Saturday the 9th where they were invited to a tournament held in Leeds.

The group stages consisted of four twenty minute games in which York defeated Barnsley 2-1, Sunderland 2-1, Wirral B 3-0 and Drew with Leeds 0-0. These positive results meant that York qualified from their group in top position.

They faced Sheffield Schoolboys in the semi-final which resulted in 1-0 loss.  Wirral A went onto win the closely contested final against Sheffield 2-1.

To reach the semi-finals was a good achievement for the York team and once again the team showed a great deal of spirit and togetherness. York’s Kiam Browne scored the goal of the tournament with a fantastic strike from inside his own half against Sunderland Schoolboys.

So far York’s pre-season has been very optimistic and the attitude and performances of the players has been brilliant.
