U11s 7-a-Side Northern Finals @ Sunderland

York Schools’ U11s exit from National 7 aside competition

York & District schools’ U11s travelled to Sunderland FC’s training ground last week to participate in the North of England 7 aside tournament.

They were flying the flag for North Yorkshire having knocked Scarborough out earlier on this season. York were drawn in a group with Darlington, Sheffield, Preston and Newcastle. They finished fourth in their group with 5 points, 1 win 2 draws and 1 loss.

The two draws came against Sheffield and Newcastle, defeating Preston and losing to Darlington. It was an extremely competitive group, each team possessed real quality. York were believed to be top of the group going into their last fixture against Darlington, but the resounding loss against their North Eastern rivals meant they unfortunately finished up in fourth.

York’s coaches were very pleased with three out of the four York performances, they asked the players to view their defeat against Darlington as part of the learning curve that comes with Representative football.

Newcastle, who York drew with in the group stages went onto win the tournament and will now go on to represent the North of England at the National finals alongside runners up Leeds.

York’s joint players of the tournament were Alfie Cresswell and Leo Berriman, both showed a magnificent attitude whilst also making big impacts on the games.
