U11 Sheffield 29.09.12

match-newsYork schoolboys suffered their first defeat of the season away to an excellent Sheffield team. The game started at a furious pace with the home team creating the early chances and it was no surprise when Sheffield went 1-0 up after 10mins. York now settled into the game and when striker Oliver smith was fouled in the penalty area Charlie Cresswell slotted home the resulting penalty to bring the game level on 15mins. York now had their best spell and took the game to their opponents with a number of half chances but were unable to convert, all the while Sheffield looked dangerous on the break and if it were not for two fine saves from Aaron Burn in the York goal half time could have seen Sheffield in front. As it was York came out level at 1-1 for the second half but again fine Sheffield football resulted in another goal and now York found themselves 2-1 down. Sheffield now took control and when they scored their 3rd with 15 mins of the game remaining all looked lost, but again York rallied and some fine play down York’s right side from Jamie Higginbotham and a fine cross from the impressive Dominic Jackson saw Joe Crosby convert with a brave header to pull one back for York leaving “game on” at 3-2. But just when york needed the ball to try and force an equaliser Sheffield seemed to find yet another gear and coverted two more chances in the last 5 mins to leave Sheffield slightly flattered by a 5-2 win. York gave a brave performance and Dan Allinson was given the man of the match for York. York’s manager Brendan Qualter was delighted with his teams efforts commenting “despite what appears a heavy loss we played a fine Sheffield team today and the boys will learn more from that level of game than most games this season”
