U11s York 4-5 Nottingham

Notes were lost for this match so forgive for the sketchy write up.

We knew this was going to be physical encounter from the off, but knew the boys would do well if they stuck to it and concentrated on the football side of things. We got off to a great start scoring in the first few minutes. Louie Regan sending a throw to Ben Farrar who slid the ball past the wanting keeper. 1 v 0.

We were going toe to toe with Nottingham but they managed to get a goal back in this 3rd. 1 v 1. Nothing too much to split the sides. They were getting a game from the York boys.

The second third we switched off a little. Nottingham taking this 3rd by scoring 3 goals. Oz Shaw pulled one back by lobbing the keeper from outside the box. This gave us a bit of hope that all was not lost. 2 v 4.

The final 3rd the boys knew they had to give it their all. And we can’t fault them  – they did. Ben Farrar scoring 2 goals in this 3rd one from open play and the other from the spot. Chances went begging too. We had enough chances to pull the game back and to take the lead. With us all pushing for the win Nottingham scored another in this half to take the game away from us with time running out.

The match could have easily finished a win for York. Especially if we had gone at the match like we did in the final third.

A great physical effort from all the boys that will only do them good in the long run.

Goals: Ben Farrar(3), Oz Shaw (1)
