U12s York 1-2 Wakefield

Wakefield were the welcomed visitors to York Uni for this under 12s league fixture. York looking to take 3 points and jump into 1st place in the league.  After the first few minutes both teams looked equal. Wakefield taking the lead with a little help from the wind. A shot from approx. 25 yards went high over everyone’s head, looping into the top corner.  8 minutes in, York 0 v 1 Wakefield.

York were pushing forward but not creating a clear-cut chance Infront of goal. Wakefield were working hard for their 1 v 0 lead. They deserved going into half time in front. Half Time: York 0 v 1 Wakefield.

York were confident at the start of the second half and knew chances would come. Not long after the break Ben Farrar latched onto a loose ball in the box and slotted home the equaliser.  York 1 v 1 Wakefield.

York continued to press but were coming up against a Wakefield brick wall. Chance after chance to get shots away and press for the winner were coming and going with time running out. York were camped in the Wakefield half and with that a long ball forward found a Wakefield striker who ran 30+ yards with the ball to create a chance 1 on 1 with the keeper. Wakefield again took the lead with a very cool finish to the side of Stan Connor.

10 minutes to go for York to again find a reply. Attack after attack was met with Wakefield bodies defending superbly. Not matter where we went on the pitch. We were match/opposed by another Wakefield defender.

Wakefield held on to the deserved win after a great team effort.

Goal: Ben Farrar
