U13s East Riding 4 v 2 York

York & District U13 Schoolboys were on the road this weekend and travelled East along the A1079 to play their neighbours East Riding. Prior to kick-off both teams stood on the centre circle to pay their respects to HRH Prince Philip.

East Riding came out of the traps fastest and took control of the match, York initially struggled to compete with East Riding and found themselves 2-0 down within the first 10 minutes. However as the first half progressed York began to come back into the game and started to regain control, the  character of the team was now starting to show with the midfield of Todd Fella, Noah Ward, Jamie Kay , Louie McGurrin & James Borlase batting like lions. This created a chance for York, the ball was whipped into the penalty area to find the head of Ben Farrar who headed home to make it 2-1. York were now knocking on the door for a well deserved equaliser, they didn’t want the half to end but the referee had other ideas and blew up for half time.

The second half got under way with York now pushing on to find more goals, unfortunately 2 further goals by East Riding found York 4-1 down. However despite the score line no heads went down and York continued to give a fantastic account of themselves. This resulted in the ball breaking free for Noah Ward who was on the edge of the box and with his right foot chipped the keeper to make it 4-2.

This goal gave York a well deserved boost who again pushed forward looking to reduce the deficit, this positive play allowed East Riding to break on the counter attack, with a 1 on 1 with the keeper looming it looked like another goal,  however Oliver Williams had other ideas and tracked back 50 yds like an exocet missile to close in on the striker and make a superb last ditch tackle to keep the score 4-2 as the ref blew the final whistle.
