Back to league duties for the York boys after the disappointment of losing the national semi-finals before Easter and a welcome win against Doncaster, who had comprehensively beaten York the week before in a friendly. With many players returning from holidays and injuries, the team was in a much stronger condition for this game and it showed as York were the dominant team throughout the game despite trailing at half time.

York dominated the ball for long periods of the game and created many chances in the first half, but Doncaster were always dangerous on the break and their winger, who caused many problems the week before, managed to find space and play a great pass to their striker to slot the opening goal against the run of play. The positive from conceding was that York knew what went wrong and put the steps in place to make sure it didn’t happen again. Finn Davis was York’s main threat in the first half forcing saves from the Doncaster keeper. 1-0 at half time and now York needed to step it up and they did.

Olaf Gorczyczewski, Matthew Orr and Dara Sanusi came to life in the second half and were a real threat, causing no end of problems. But it was defender Harley Waddington that lead the charge to get York level with a great assist from Harry Waines. Then Lucas Matthews, excellent in midfield curled in a beautiful shot with his left foot from the edge of the box to give York the lead. Gorczyczewski then settled the contest with a looping header over the keeper to give York some breathing room.

A superb second half performance saw York run out deserved winners. Next up are Rotherham as the York boys look to continue their winning ways and finish the season on a high note.

Final Score: York & District 3 – 1 Doncaster
Scorers: Harley Waddington, Lucas Matthews. Olaf Gorczyczewski
