21.09.13 U13s York 1 Hull 1
Having used their opening fixture against Leeds (won 2-1) as a trial match, York got into more competitive action against old rivals Hull emerging with a hard fought 1-1 draw. Hull got the better of York in the U12 season pipping them for the Junior Star League but it might be a different story this year. York introduced three new boys, goal keeper Cameron Bilham, Jack Leeming and Jack Atkinson and all did well.
Hull dominated the early play but York took the lead when Kain Rogerson shot across the keeper from twenty yards. Hull were always a threat and their pressure was rewarded with a well finished equaliser early in the second half. Both teams went for the winner with Joseph Allerton, Dan Moll and Will Owen going close for York. But it was Hull who had the best chance to win the game with ten minutes to go as some confusion in the York defence resulted in a penalty which was not converted.
Honours even at 1-1 and a good platform for York with their English Schools Cup First Round tie only three weeks away. Some strong performances with defenders Ritchie Deighton and his second half replacement Ben Buck sharing the Man of the Match award.
York entertain East Riding this Saturday (28th) at York University with a 10.30am kick off.
