U11s Leeds Regional Tournament

York under 11’s Schoolboy footballers gave a brave account of themselves in an 11 region tournament hosted in Leeds. York started with a 1-0 win over Sheffield with Elliot Heath scoring the only goal, York were a little fortunate as Sheffield probably deserved the draw but some fine goalkeeping from Todd Edgar and brave defending from Dan Tingle, Isaac Meehan and Taylor Bell ensured the York boys got off to the best possible start.

The second game pitched York against Barnsley this finished 0-0 with few chances created, Dan Myers from York went closest to breaking the deadlock but time was against York as the game finished in a goalless stalemate.

York now conceded their first goal of the tournament and with it the game as they Lost 1-0 to Leeds which left them having to win their final group game to be assured of qualifying for the Semi-final stages.

Another tight group encounter with North Yorkshire rivals Scarborough was finally ended when Dan Myers got the crucial winner with minutes to spare to give York a 1-0 win and a semi-final slot.

Opponents Wirral proved too strong for York in the semi, despite determined performances from midfield duo Harry Tinker and Joe Watt it was set pieces that were to undo York as they went down 3-0.  Dan Tingle was outstanding throughout the tournament but all 14 players in the York squad made their contributions.
