U11s Yorkshire Cup
York under 11s schoolboy’s made a brave attempt to winning the 9 a side Yorkshire cup competition held in Leeds.
York started their campaign with a hard fought 0-0 draw against Sheffield B followed by another draw this time 1-1 when with only 5 minutes of this particular game Harry Tinker struck a long range effort which beat the Derby keeper all ends up and rescued another point for York.
Leeds were the next opposition and desperately needing a win they delivered with a 2-0 victory with goals from defender Will Hollings who was having a superb tournament and Elliot Heath.
York’s final group game was against East Riding and as the weather conditions deteriorated York fashioned a comprehensive 3-0 victory with goals from Will Hollings, Joe Stamp and Daniel Myers.
York now had a long wait while other groups finished but as group winners they eventually were pitched against Sheffield A in the Semi-final.
York never really got started and the morning’s games played in heavy rain and pitches seemed to have sucked all the energy from York as Sheffield ran out worthy 2-0 winners.
All in all York were pleased with their efforts group winners and only conceding 3 goals in the whole tournament was a tremendous effort. Oliver Kilvington, Harry tinker and Jack Hughes had strong performances representing York.
