U14s East Riding 0-4 York

York Schoolboys Under 14’s opened their League campaign today with an away fixture at East Riding who kicked off the game in glorious sunshine.

York were soon on the front foot, not allowing East Riding to Settle on the ball with Ben Barker Spencer winning early challenges allowing Charlie Buckle to send Manni De Nobriga through for an early chance but his shot goes narrowly wide. York continued to press and De Nobriga forced a good save from the East Riding keeper following good work from York captain Lucas Wilson. The York defence of Josh Tingle, Will Anderson, Miles Buckle and Josh Hollins stood firm and kept the East Riding forwards quiet, winning every challenge and playing attacking passes down the wings. With both sides playing good football, York took the early advantage on 17 minutes when a through ball from Lucas Frankish put Manni De Nobriga  in behind the East Riding defence to cleverly lob the advancing keeper to make the score 1-0. York continue to apply pressure and go close again following a long range strike from Wilson. Good work from the back from Hollins allows De Nobriga and Barker Spencer combine to find Joe Crosby who’s first time volley from 15 yards hits the post.

York’s continued pressure pays off when after 28 minutes full back Josh Tingle’s long ball sets up De Nobriga to shoot past the East Riding keeper. East Ridings best chance of the first half came following a defensive mix up but an outstanding save from keeper Harry Griffiths kept the score at 2-0 at half time.

York started the second half as they finished the first, applying pressure to the East Riding defence and 5 minutes into the second half extend their lead following a Lucas Frankish cross which finds Jay Carter who smashes the ball home from 18 yards.

York’s best move of the game came following an East Riding corner which is headed clear by Will Anderson to Dan Stevenson who releases Jay Carter down the left wing and then plays a clever ball to Ben Barker Spencer who slips in Manni De Nobriga who unfortunately shoots just wide. The biggest scare of the second half came following an East Riding corner which was brilliantly cleared off the line by Charlie Buckle. With five minutes to go York wrap up the win when Frankish and Crosby combine to set up Josh Hollings so shoot from 18 yards into the bottom corner of the net to make the final score 4-0.
