U15s Scarborough 2-6 York
Battling against the ever changing conditions York & District u15’s picked up their first win of the season. In a tough division with a lot of academy players’ wins can be hard to come by but York breezed past Scarborough today with a wonderful performance.
There were two new faces in the York set up this week with Benedict, Harry Fox coming in to the squad. The team started very well and with two lovely build ups through the thirds, with quick, effective & penetrative passing they found themselves 2-0 up. Harrison Hopper with a well-placed finish in the bottom corner from the edge of the box & Jack Atkinson who held the ball well after some great play from Tom Palmer on the wing, then found the back of the net with great composure. A wonderful pass from Harrison Hopper after a great challenge and swift decision in the defensive third by Jamie O’Connell at right back, starting an attack which ended up with Finlay Burbidge running in behind and finishing well.
The team went it 3-0 at half time, the combinations from the back with the two centre backs Ritchie Deighton & Benedict were outstanding, linking well with the fullbacks Jamie O’Connell and Dan Moll to make York look dangerous everywhere on the pitch.
The second half started with a bang, with another great combining play leading to Kain Rogerson firing across the box and well timed run from the skilful Jon-Paul Turbine led to him burying a 4th. A 5th followed as following some great wing play by Jack Sturdy the ball fell to Jack Heartshorne on the edge of the area who calmly curled it into the top corner, a wonderful finish. This time Scarborough hit back with a wonderful strike on the edge of the area, finding the bottom corner. Slight complacency from York may of lead to more going in if it wasn’t for two wonderful stops from Cam Smith in the York goal.
After some wonderful quick feet Kain Rogerson managed to fire low into the bottom corner for 6, then Scarborough hit back after a long ball caught out the York defence, but it was too little too late and the final whistle went, York 6 – 2 Scarborough. A special mention to the York & District captain Rich Barsby who didn’t play but joined the coaching staff for the day. All in all great day for York and hopefully a few more wins to come.
