U11s York 3-2 Barnsley
York under 11’s Schoolboy footballers showed great character to come from behind on two occasions and then finally steal a 3-2 home victory against Barnsley in the league.
The game was played in very difficult conditions with high winds dominating proceedings and it was Barnsley who adapted the quicker and deservedly took the lead on 13 minutes after a well taken goal.
York were struggling to get a foothold in the game and were restricted to a couple of long range efforts from Max Ezard who went very close to equalizing for York. However it took a long pass from Oliver Darley which bisected the Barnsley defence before Kaiden Butler latched onto the pass and lobbed the otherwise outstanding Barnsley Keeper to get York back into the game at 1-1.
York now finally started to create opportunities with good approach play from Mathew Dawes and Ellis Cattaneo but again Barnsley caught York napping and fired home their second goal to re-take the lead 2-1.
It took another fine goal from Kaiden Butler with a overhead kick from close range with only 20 minutes remaining to give York another lifeline at 2-2. Both teams were now pushing for a winner but fine goalkeeping from Noah Ellis in the York net kept the scores level, but with only 2 minutes remaing Tom Algar picked up a loose pass outside the penalty area and thumped home from 20 yards to pinch the game 3-2 to York.
