York U11s edged out by Sheffield
York & District schools’ U11s hosted Sheffield last Saturday. York took the lead after 15 minutes, Adrian Bajaziti’s shot was well saved, but Arthur Jefferson-Hallett reacted fastest and poked the ball home.
Just before the 20 minute mark York keeper Jack Yates made a superb stop to preserve York’s tender lead. But Sheffield got their deserved equaliser before half time. Kiam Browne’s excellent sliding challenge stopped the first shot, but Sheffield’s players reacted quicker to the second phase and fired the ball into the York goal.
Sheffield’s momentum continued to build and in the 35th minute they scored their second. It was a fantastic strike which dipped under the crossbar. In the final twenty minutes of the game York worked very hard for the leveller but Sheffield’s back line were impressive.
With 10 minutes to play York scored, only for it to be then disallowed for offside. The game finished 2-1 to Sheffield.
York’s Will Hobson was awarded man of the match by the coaches for his excellent second half display. Alfie Creswell and Alex Widdup were also close contenders with their strong performances.
