U13s Barnsley 0-3 York

York travelled down to Barnsley without five regular players from last season, so with that we needed to call in some players from outside the squad with a view to possibly bringing them into the squad.

The game started slow for York with Barnsley having the lions share of possession but that was understandable with a York team never having played together.

Barnsley managed the first shot in anger which saw Keeper Alex Graves make a difficult save look easy instilling confidence in the York defence he went on to make several good saves, plucking the ball out of the air from corners or balls into the box and his commanding of the area and his distribution was excellent turning defence into attack with pin point kicking or throwing.

Barnsley broke on York only for the quick Dylan Jones to set the tone with a great sliding challenge winning the ball and showing the kind of commitment every manager wants to see from his players.

York needed to make a few last ditch challenges inside there own box with Jack Whelan and Noah Mogan stand up firm to the Barnsley along with Dylan Jones and Ryan Evans

As the half wore on York started to play some good passing football with Ryan Evans, Luca Chan and Bobby Boyeson combining on the left, this giving the other boys to start passing the ball also it was hard in an attacking sense for York With Reuben Pugh and Will Almond working extremely hard.

York made a sub as Oliver Fash who was having a solid game in central midfield with Luca Chan.

The Fresh legs of Sam Clark coming off the bench gave York new belief after playing a few forward balls and good tackling, Joesph Richardson worked very hard from right wing trying to get in behind the Barnsley back four but also chasing back helping out the defence.

Second half we made a few changes and Mitch Parkinson coming on up front and Kean Scorgie just in behind. Mitch never giving their defenders a minutes peace on the ball tirelessly closing them down.

York started the second half on the front foot knowing we need to create some chances then the breakthrough came as Joseph Richardson latched onto a through ball to chip a bouncing ball over the keeper to open the scoring, at this Barnsley fought hard and made a couple of chances which York Keeper Henry Jackson that had come on for the second half had to be strong.

York took more control of the game not creating too much but looking more likely to score again and they did when after a good passing move Will Almond latched onto the ball and lashed the ball with his left foot beyond the keeper into the net.

Now with York looking comfortable with 5 mins a defence splitting pass saw Kean Scorgie use his great pace to run through one on one with the keeper and slot the ball home with a well deserved and taken goal.

York then closed the shop to see out the game.

Special thanks to Noah Morgan, Kean Scorgie, Reuben Pugh and Will Almond for turning up and putting in great performances.
