U11s East Riding 3 v 5 York

This was our 3rd league fixture of the season. The morning didn’t get off to the best start with a late call off from a poorly Reuben Smith added to the injured Cam Mcmillan.

The York boys were turning up to a full-strength East Riding team ready to compete with only 9 men.

The boys were up for this and looked good from the off. Keeping possession and getting forward as a team. Shots were coming but with no goals. Then against the run of play East Riding break and slot a finish away to take the lead. The boys reacted brilliantly and again from kick off were the one attacking and battling.  Shots again from Ben Farrar, Max Rhodes, Matty Ellison & James Borlase, but none going in the onion bag.

Again, East Riding break with the ball and from a cross they volleyed a finish into the net. Nothing Eugene Revill could do about it. All this possession and 2 v 0 down.

York kept on knocking at the door. A great pass down the wing from Eugene Revill to Matty Ellison who then slid the ball through to Ben Farrar. Ben slotted the ball into the net in the bottom left corner. Game on. 2 v 1

York kept on battling and winning the ball. Max Rhodes and Oz Shaw having a lot of possession in the middle. Oz Shaw Played a through ball to Ben Farrar who managed to work some space on the edge of the box and take a shot. Hitting the post and rebounding back into play, James Borlase was there to pick up the pieces and put the ball home. 2 v 2.

After working hard to get back into this game we the let in a scrappy goal. 3 v 2. Heads did not drop. Jimmy Hendon rallying the guys from the back instructing all to keep going and work as a team.

We won a free kick over on the right-hand side. Matty Ellison took this and played it to the back post where Oz Shaw nipped in and stayed alert. Stretching a leg out and managing to get the ball in the back of the net. 3 v 3.

Before the boys went back onto the pitch for the final 20 minutes they had the attitude of never give up. It was great to hear and see.

In the final third we went with James Borlase up top as well Ben Farrar. Relying on Louie Regan, Brogan Dunn and Jimmy Hendon to keep things calm at the back. The 3 in midfield were working their socks off not giving the East Riding lads time on the ball.

Pressure from Ben Farrar up top made the defender play a blind pass back to his keeper. Not seeing the spare striker James Borlase who latched onto the ball and finished well. Finally, we took the lead. 3 v 4.

Louie Regan played the ball down the line to Ben Farrar who moved the ball onto Oz Shaw and then Max Rhodes opened his body to take a left foot strike from the edge of the box. Great finish into the bottom left corner. The 3 points were now safe.

The work rate and togetherness of the team was brilliant to see today. Never gave up and not once moaned. They just kept working and believing in themselves. They were all brilliant!

Thanks to all parents for time taken out to bring the kids and support the team on a cold morning.
