U12s York 5-1 Doncaster

York got their cup run underway against Doncaster Schoolboys at York Uni, where the pitches had held up great despite the weather.

The York lads coming off the back of a terrific performance v Leeds came out looking great in their new kits all ready for a photo shoot opportunity.

We started off on the front foot, attacking from both wings and getting shots off from all angles. Jack Huddlestone coming the closest early on and skimming the woodwork. Doncaster were hard to break down and defending well. Hitting York on the break when they could and keeping our centre mid paring of Matty Ellison & Oz Shaw busy. The first goal finally came via a pass from Brogan Dunne to Ben Farrar who slotted the ball from the left hand side into the bottom right of the net. 1 v 0 York. Finally, the deadlock was broken.

The game for the first half was a lot of possession for York with no real immediate threat to scoring and making it 2 v 0. Doncaster were working really hard as a unit and hitting York on the break. The back 3 and Stan in goal had to keep their concentration as this was not going all our own way.  The first half ended with the game fully in the balance York 1 v 0 Doncaster.

Second half started and York had a quicker tempo about them. A positional swap saw Jimmy Hendon leave his defensive role for a striking position. Not long after the swap, Harry Glaves played the ball in for Jimmy Hendon who controlled like Zidane in his prime and slotted home just to the side of the Donny keeper. 2 v 0 and pressure was off the lads.

Soon after York won a corner, a quick short corner worked with Oz Shaw sliding the ball into the 6-yard box for Ben Farrar to grab his second of the match and give York a 3 v 0 lead.

Looking in control and trying to see the game out, Doncaster had a spell of possession and took a strike from outside the box… Take a bow son…Great strike from the Doncaster lad. Game back on 3 v 1.

This gave York a little reminder to work back up the gears. Jamie Kay playing the ball into Ben Farrar who rounded off his afternoon with a hattrick. Although he doesn’t get to take the matchball home we let him take the ballbag back to the changing room. 4 v 1 and with only a few minutes left Stan Connor played a Jordan Pickford pinpoint pass through to James Borlase; who took the ball to the edge of the area with an on rushing keeper and played the ball to the side of him rolling it into the net. Game Over, York coming away with a 5 v 1 Victory.

Well done boys and into the next round.
