U14s York 7-2 Hull ESFA Cup Knockout Stages

York U14 Schoolboys welcomed Hull In the knockout phase of the English Schools FA Champions League Cup.

Hull got off to a perfect start, within the first 5 minutes they were 1-0 up, Hull were awarded a free kick 25yds out which was hit perfectly and nestled in to the net. York re-grouped and the character kicked in, the midfield engine room of Ward, Kay, Steel & Williams bossed the centre of midfield and created the tempo for the match. The pressure told and York were soon level with McGurrin picking up the loose ball 20yds out from goal and hit a sweet left foot that saw the ball crash into the roof of the net. York were now playing some fast flowing football with the wide players of Fella and Nicholson causing havoc on the wings.

York soon took the lead with Farrar creating an opportunity by stealing the ball in the penalty area and firing through the keepers’ legs to make it 2-1. York’s third came from Williams who again picked the ball up on the edge of the box and fired the ball over the stranded Hull keeper. The fourth came from a pinpoint cross that was delivered by Borlaise, the cross found the head of Farrar who calmly nodded it in to make it 4-1. Just before half-time York made it 5-1 with Farrar securing his hatrick goal.

The second half got underway with York stamping their authority back on the game, this soon delivered with York scoring their sixth and McGurrin securing his second goal of the match. Hull showed great spirit and were trying desperately to get behind York’s defence of Pala, Barson, Fewlass and create an opportunity to make Coy in the York net make a save. Hull did score a second which they thoroughly deserved; however York finished the game off with Farrar scoring his fourth and York’s seventh.

York now progress to the next round and play Barnsley on the 29th January.
