U15s York 5 Spen Valley 2

York Schoolboys U15s  5   Spen Valley Schoolboys U15s  2

York Schoolboys Under 15s beat Spen Valley 5-2 and were full value for the home win despite falling behind inside the first ten minutes for the second week running. The game was a wide open affair from the off with York quick to respond to the early setback as the excellent Alex Wilson controlled proceedings from right midfield.

Niall Smallwood forced the ball home from close range to level the scores and then Luca Colville put the home side in control with a powerful downward header following a corner kick.

York then had their best spell of the match leading up to half time and had the opposition chasing shadows at times as they played the ball out from the back and through midfield with Smallwood, Colville, Wilson and Ben Burdett all combining well.

This controlled possession opened up the Spen defence on several occasions with strikers John Carr and Adam Wilson both a touch unfortunate not to extend the lead.

York continued in the ascendancy second half and threatened to run away with the game but despite being camped in the visitors half for sustained periods they were hit with a sucker punch when Spen somehow conjured an unlikely equaliser from a rare counter attack.

This lifted the visitors and for a brief spell knocked York out of their stride until Adam Wilson restored parity with a good finish from inside the penalty area. Sam Emmot and Bailey Fleming then shored things up at the back to ensure there would be no way back again.

Cameron Herd then made it 4-2 with a neat finish before Niall Smallwood capped a man of the match performance with an unstoppable shot from distance that hit the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar to complete the scoring.
