U13 York 7 Hull 3

York continued their unbeaten start to the Yorkshire League season with an amazing 7 -3 victory over fierce rivals Hull. This was the first win for York in six meetings with the boys from the East Coast. Hull dominated the first half with some fluent football but despite creating many chances they went a goal behind when Alfie Atkinson curled in a superb free-Kick.

Hull rallied and created many more chances but strong defending from Jamie O’Connell and goal keeper Cameron Bilham kept their response down to one. 1-1 at half time and York glad to hear the whistle and re-group. The second half provided a different story as York began to attack with power and pace and unlike their opponents they took most of the chances created.  Goals from Kain Rogerson and a penalty from Alfie Atkinson took York to a 3-1 lead before Hull rallied again with two quick strikes to level at 3-3.

York were in no mood for allowing a comeback and responded with four superb efforts one from Ritchie Deighton and a hat-trick from man of the match Jack Atkinson whose pace and strength turned the game.

A great win for York in a game which could have finished 10-10. York will look to continue their positive start to the league campaign when Scarborough visit the University on Saturday.
