U11s East Riding 1 – 2 York
York under 11s schoolboy football’s finally got their league programme underway after a clutch of friendlies.
Up first was a tricky away trip to East Riding. In terrible weather conditions the game started very evenly with both teams struggling to get past both respective defences. Isaac Meehan,
Taylor Bell, Dan Tingle and Will Hollings were all strong defensively for York.
The first half came to an end with only long range efforts at goal the best both teams could muster.
The second half started with York appearing to get on top, great work down both wings by Daniel Myers and George Turbine was starting to pay off as York started forcing the pace and with
only 15 minutes left the deadlock was finally broken when Jack Hughes latched onto a cross and thundered in a fine header after good build up play from Harry Tinker and
Dan Myers to create the cross.
York now only had to hold on but as often happens East Riding replied almost instantly with a well taken goal of their own after a cross eluded all the York defenders and presented
the East Riding striker with an easy opportunity to level the game.
At this point a draw looked a certainty but with only minutes remaining Joe stamp tapped in from close range after the keeper failed to hold onto a long range effort from York
to leave the final score 2-1 to York and all three points.
