U13s York 5-1 Spen Valley
Following a two week break, York Schoolboys Under 13’s returned to competitive action in a league game at home to Spen Valley.
York started brightly and forced numerous chances with Charlie Ward shooting just wide and Rob Guilfoyle and Joe Crosby forcing good saves from the Spen Valley keeper. York kept the pressure on the Spen Valley defence with good work from wingers Dom Jackson and Charlie Jebson King supplying dangerous crosses which were well defended. The breakthrough finally came following a defence splitting pass from Charlie Jebson King allowing Rob Guilfoyle to round the keeper and slot the ball home.
York continued to pressure and following a free kick, Rob Guilfoyle pounced for his second to make it 2-0 to the home side. Guilfoyle grabbed his hat-trick following good work by Danny Allinson. With York now in control a fine passing move with good work from Nick Hutton and Charlie Ward allowed Rob Guilfoyle in to claim his fourth goal of the game.
York again started the second half brightly and forced an early corner which headed over the bar by Joe Hickey.
Spen Valley then started to get a foothold in the game and started to create chances causing the York defence a few problems, on 40 minutes Spen Valley broke through the York defence and slotted the ball past York keeper Harry Griffiths to make it 4-1.
Spen Valley continued to press forcing a fine save by Harry Griffiths in the York goal.
This scare seemed to spur York back into action with Danny Allinson picking the ball up in midfield and hitting a 25 yard drive past the Spen Valley keeper to make it 5-1.
York again continued to press and following good work from Charlie Jebson King on the left who then found Crosby who laid the ball off to Charlie Ward, whose shot was well saved.
The final score was 5-1 to York with the man of the match award going to striker Rob Guilfoyle for his 4 goals.
Next week sees the squad travel to Newcastle in the second round of the national cup.
