U11s York 5-3 Derby

York under 11 schoolboy footballers extended their unbeaten league run to five straight league wins with a hard fought narrow 5-3 home victory against Derby.

The game started with York dominating the ball but also struggled to deal defensively when Derby attacked and after only 10 minutes went 1-0 in front from a close range effort.

York responded well and when the ball popped out to Ryan Evans on the Derby penalty area he levelled the score with a fine strike. York then forced a succession of corners and again when Derby half cleared one of these it fell to Dylan Jones who magnificently smashed home from long range on the 20 minute mark.

Derby were not going away and again when York struggled to make a defensive clearance Derby pounced and tapped in again from close range after a succession of defensive lapses 2-2. Derby seemed buoyed by this equaliser and were even happier when awarded a penalty on 42 mins after a trip from a York defender, the Derby strike made no mistake from the spot to give the visitors a 3-2 lead.

Thankfully York had time on their side and stepped up the pressure with midfielders Jamie Hudson, Fraser Clarke and Jack Whalen starting to work really hard and within the space of 4 minutes first Ronnie Kelly then Ben Myers with the goal of the game turned the game on its head with two goals to leave York 4-3 up with 3 minutes remaining.

Derby seemed completely deflated with these two late strikes and it was no surprise when Ronnie Kelly got his second and York’s 5th goal right at the death to see York win 5-3.

York had definitely played their get out of jail card free but this still leaves them undefeated in their league programme.
