U11s Sheffield 1-4 York
The under 11’s first league game of the season saw them travel to St Georges 3G surface to take on Sheffield Schoolboys. The boys were excited and up for the test. The YSB started strong against some very blustery weather and were pressing all over the pitch not giving the Sheffield lads time to think on the ball. Just what their coaches asked for.
A high press from Ozzy Shaw created our first chance for Ben Farrar who just put the ball wide of the goal. This was going to be a scenario that kept on happening throughout the first 20 minutes. James Borlase picked the ball up on the right and showed some real quick feet nipping in and out of the Sheffield defenders and playing a ball down the line to Ozzy Shaw, who put in a low driven cross for Ben Farrar to finish. 0 v 1.
Sheffield tried to attack but again our back 3 of Louie Regan, Jimmy Hendon and Brogan Dunn were outstanding. Taking control of anything that came their way. It was from a Sheffield attack that Ozzy Shaw intercepted a pass and threaded another through ball down the left side to Cam Mcmillan who dribbled forward and got the ball out of his feet to finish with a smart shot in the bottom corner. 0 v 2.
Sheffield had one shot on our goal in the first 20 minutes and Stan Connor made easy work of it with some good handling. The second 20 minutes seemed to be going the same way to. The boys kept the high tempo and were very trusting of each other all over the pitch. Playing their way out of trouble with nice football and not reverting to the `rod it forward’ way. Again, exactly what the coaches had asked for.
Some quick thinking from a corner saw our opportunity come early on in this third. James Borlase took a short corner to Ozzy Shaw before Sheffield could set themselves. Ozzy Shaw worked some space on the edge of the area and hit a low shot to the keepers right; in off the post!!!! 0 v 3. Sheffield again didn’t trouble the hands of the YSB keeper Stan Connor to much. Anything that came his way he was dealing with.
The third 20 minutes was going to be a harder test, only 1 sub and once again against the strong wind. But the boys knew that keeping possession on a big pitch was key. We were tiring in this third, but the boys kept on going. Another through ball from Ozzy Shaw from the edge of our box sent Ben Farrar through on goal. Nothing was going to get in Ben Farrars way as he slotted the ball home for another great finish. 0 v 4.
Sheffield grabbed their chance in this third. They seized possession on the edge of our area and with a hard hit shot managed to get one past Stan Connor who was gutted to see his clean sheet taken away.
This match was a real team performance from all the YSB lads. Each having their role to play. This small group of lads have become close over the past few weeks and it’s starting to show in their trust of each other. They all now have a strong connection; Not just team mates but friends and it’s great to see.
Well done boys. #Proud #ESFA #YSB
